(also known as God’s provision!)
It’s easy to have a perception that speaking about money is somehow a taboo subject but actually Jesus spent a lot of time teaching about handling money and possessions well. God is as interested in how we handle our money, both as individuals and as a church, as He is in all other areas of our lives. As you will know from the weekly notice sheet, God’s work at Christ Church is funded entirely by our church family. We do not receive funding from outside sources and almost everything that happens at Christ Church is as a result of the giving of individual members. We encourage planned giving, which means that our hope and prayer is that each of us spends time working out with God what we are able to give to His work through our church. And as we partner with Him in that work, we are blessed in seeing God at work in our church and our community and beyond.
From my perspective, as treasurer, I have the thrill (and challenge) of seeing God at work through our finances. Each year He has provided what is needed, even when we have set a budget for the year in faith and can’t see ourselves how it will be fulfilled but we believe that we are doing what He has called us to do and that He will provide. And yes, I do get excited about numbers on a page in our accounts, but really it’s more because I know that those numbers represent God’s word being taught, children and young people hearing the gospel, CAP bringing hope, the housebound being visited, people finding community through LoveWare:LiveWare, Wednesday Welcome, toddlers, MADD and Oasis, prayers being offered in faith, God being worshipped, and, in so many more ways, the good news being shared in our town and beyond!
It is therefore with humility and gratitude, I say “THANK YOU” to each and every one of you who have partnered with God by faithfully giving to Christ Church. You are the means by which God brings the resources needed to fulfil the vision He has given us of building His kingdom here. It has been wonderful to see the development fund growing too and the completion of the first phase of the building work is the beginning of an exciting journey and will be a real blessing! My prayer for each of you is that you are encouraged and blessed by seeing and being a part of what God is doing.
As I mentioned above, we set our budget for the year in faith, praying for an increase in income of around £8,000. It is impossible to know precisely, but at the moment it seems that we are a little behind that target. I fully believe that all that is needed will be provided but may I encourage you that if you were thinking of starting giving, or increasing your giving, to Christ Church, then it would be wonderful if you could let me know. Do speak to me or have a look on the church website christchurchware.co.uk/giving if you’d like to find out how to give to Christ Church. Most of all, however, please do pray for the PCC as we steward what has been provided and as we set a budget for 2018 very soon. We need God’s wisdom for good discernment and careful stewardship, and we can never have too much wisdom! Thank you for your prayers, and for being a part of what
God is doing here through Christ Church.
