Today was our ‘Gifting Day’, and as I write this, I am filled with expectation as we wait to hear the results. STOP PRESS – I have just heard from the Treasurer that we raised £165,000 on June 11th. I am sure we will find that more pledges and gifts come in over the next few weeks. This means we are well on the way to achieving our target for this second phase of £700,000.
I have really enjoyed the stories John has been sharing over the past weeks and months of the Vision the early Founders of Christ Church had and the quotes from past vicars encouraging the congregation to support the town of Ware and those in need. There was no doubt in the minds of the clergy and congregation that Christ Church had a significant role to play in the community supporting those in need in the town and wider missionary work.
Perhaps the activities of 19th Century Christ Church were not so different from those we undertake today: Children’s Church, concern for those in financial difficulty, social clubs, evangelism at home and abroad. As we reflect on the needs that sadly don’t seem to have changed much over the past 160 years, we have the opportunity today to ensure that our buildings can better meet the needs of the 21st Century and even those of the 22nd!
We need more flexibility in our space – giving us the ability to help more local groups who need room to meet and to provide a fabulous open space for a wider range of activities, concerts, exhibitions etc. making our building a more integral, welcoming heart in the life of the community.
All of this needs funding, but let’s not be daunted by that – we have already raised a third of what we need, and the first phase of the project is underway, the next stage is to start work inside the church.
The fundraising committee is working on two main areas:
– firstly, applications to grants and funds
– secondly, encouraging and supporting members of the congregation to fundraise through events and activities.
We have already had a wide range of activities, from dances, trips to money boxes – every little helps, we heard recently that one of our ‘jam jar savers’, donated over £25 from the change he collected from his bus fare for his school trips. At the back of the church you can find a list of fundraising ideas which we’d love you to talk over with your Life Groups and friends to see if there is anything you’d like to do which could help contribute to the fund.
ACTIVITIES COMING UP INCLUDE:
Saturday 23rd September, in Christ Church – WARE REACTION, with music from Redeeming Feature and a host of other performers.
Friday October 13th – Afternoon Tea
How the Fundraising Team can help you
If you have any ideas, please let us know what you are planning. If you need help to put your ideas into action or need support promoting an event, please let us know. We will help promote your event within the church and on social media. We would love to have more people join us on our team, we want more people who can encourage others to help raise funds and we need people to assist with more formal grant applications work.
